KENTUCKY DERBY WINNER – CHRIS ANTLEY
Introduction:
Born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Christopher W. Antley (January 6, - December 2, 2000) was a victorious American jockey. Born in Florida but was raised in Elloree, South Carolina. Antley left his school to polish his horse riding talent professionally at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland at the age of 16. Antley acquired his first ever win on a horse named Vaya Con Dinero. Later on, Antley immediately walked out of Maryland and headed to New York and New Jersey to race. Antley at the age of 18 acquired the United States Jockey Champion title with a total of 496 wins. Antley depleted most of his time in a substance abuse clinic in the late 1980s, however he still maintained his record series in the seasons of 1989 and 1987, as he used to win a minimum of one race per day for a 64-days straight season.
Career:
Antley shifted to California in 1990 and the very next year, he rode the Strike the Gold to win at the Kentucky Derby event. Till his momentarily retirement due to his drug and weight issues, Antley was a victorious jockey till 1997. After certain interval of time, Antley made a comeback in 1999 to ride the Charismatic trained by D. Wayne Lukas, and he won the Preakness Stakes and once again the Kentucky Derby the same year. Antley was discovered lifeless on the floor of his Pasadena, California residence in December, 2000, rounded force trauma was the reason for death, the police stated. |
