KENTUCKY DERBY WINNER – EDGAR PRADO
Introduction:
Amongst the numerous horse jockeys which have participated in horse racing events is Edgar S Prado. He was born on the 12th of June, 1967 in the capital city of Lima in Peru. He is a jockey mainly involved in thoroughbred racing. Edgar Prado currently resides in Hollywood, Florida. In the year 2004, Prado was the 19th Jockey in the racing history of thoroughbred horses, who has won as much as 5000 horse races. On the 6th of May, 2006, Prado was responsible for the victory of Barbaro in the Kentucky derby and was 6½ lengths in front of the Bluegrass cat that finished second in the game. The victory margin in this event was the largest since the time, the winner of the Triple Crown, namely Assault, won the Kentucky Derby by a margin of eight lengths. He did this feat in the year 1946.
Miscellaneous:
Thanks to the horrific ankle injury suffered by Barbaro, he was pulled up a couple of weeks later. Although Prado was shaken, he declined to comment with regards to his fast action which helped in the saving of the life of the colt. However, on the 29th of January, 2007, Barbaro was mercifully killed by the veterinarians of the New Bolton Center of the University of Pennsylvania. It was not until 2005, that Prado had won the Breeders’ Cup race. In the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, he led the Folklore to victory. Prado was in receipt of the New York Racing Association on the 24th of September, 2006. |
