KENTUCKY DERBY WINNER – JOSE SANTOS
Introduction:
One amongst the numerous derby players who have went on to win the horse racing matches is Jos Santos. He was born on the 26th of April, 1961 in the town of Concepcion in Chile. Although, he was a thoroughbred horse racer in the United States, he has currently retired. Jose Santos initially used to race horses in his country Chile at the Club Hipico de Conception. He mainly did this to follow the footsteps of three of his seven brothers and his father. Apart from that, Jose Santos has won the Breeders’ Cup races as much as seven times in his career. In addition, Jose has also gone on to win the 1999 Belmont Stakes. Apart from that, Jose Santos has also won the Preakness Stakes and the Kentucky Derby. This was mainly done by him with the help of Funny Cide. However, Jose Santos narrowly missed the American Triple Crown. This was mainly done, when he ended in the third position in Belmont Stakes.

Currently, although Santos went on to mention that Funny Cide was his favorite horses, despite the fact that it was not at all considered as the greatest horse. The year 1999, witnessed the bestowing of Santos with the George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award. In addition, Santos was also declared 2003 ESPY Award winner. He was considered as an outstanding US Jockey. In addition, Santos was also amongst one of the jockeys who wore patches of advertisement in the 2004 Kentucky Derby horse race. He has continued to do so for the last three years. |
